About Violet van Hees
I was born in Calgary , and grew up in Alberta . As a kid, we had horses out on a farm in the foothills, so I did a lot of informal "horsing around" out in the fields and the forests.
I graduated with a geography degree (1980) and a professional teaching certificate with a minor in environmental education (1981), from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver .

Early on, I worked in such positions as lifeguard, junior high school teacher, and park interpreter for Kluane National Park . For the past 20 years I have worked in the area of policy, legislation and intergovernmental matters for education and for health in the Yukon Government, currently serving as a senior policy advisor in health. In addition to my work with the government, I have worked as a certified and BCRPA registered fitness leader since 1982, Trainer of Fitness Leaders since 1987, and strength trainer with a specific focus on functional movement since 1994. And, I now have a practice in Whitehorse as a Feldenkrais® practitioner and as a Tellington TTouch® practitioner

In 2004, I began the four year training to become a Feldenkrais® practitioner, drawn to that through a desire to work even better and more powerfully to help people do what they love to do with greater strength, ease, skill and enjoyment. A book I found during that same year brought my attention to the work of Linda Tellington-Jones called Tellington TTouch®, and I felt very clearly drawn to that work as well, particularly with horses. Both those paths have opened up rich learning and experiences for me, and I am pleased now to be working in both of those areas. In 2006 I became a certified Tellington TTouchTM Equine Practitioner, and progressed to being a P1 practitioner in 2008. I graduated as a Guild Certified Feldenkrais PractitionerTM in November 2007, and I now offer Feldenrkrais classes, workshops and individual sessions, and Tellington TTouch clinics and individual sessions, in Whitehorse.

I’ve had a lifelong interest in active pursuits including whitewater paddling (kayaking, canoeing and rafting), skiing, hiking, riding, orienteering, running, dance, swimming, and more. I enjoy creating, reading, good food, good music, learning new things that require me to engage my whole self - and teaching others those things, and doing things that make me laugh. I love being out in wild places, on rivers, and in the forest. In March 2008, I became the owner of a beautiful Canadian/Standardbred mare who is now named Shiraz - and she and I are always learning lots from each other and having a whole lot of fun in the process.
I moved to Whitehorse in 1982 to see what might unfold for me, and fell in love with the Yukon . I now continue to live here with my husband Ross, daughter Kerstin, two happy cats, a big black horse, and flotilla of whitewater boats.

is commonplace.
Making the complicated
simple,
awesomely simple,
that's creativity."
